There’s something very simple — and yet very powerful and fruitful — we can do to improve anything.
We can invite the potential of Christ into any situation simply through ASKING …
It seems the Lord God would walk in the Garden of Eden in the cool of the day from time to time (Genesis 3:8). These were most likely what scholars term Christophanies — appearances of Christ on earth before He came and lived with us.
I believe Christ walked and conversed with Adam and Even, relating to them, and mentoring them in their calling.
Be fruitful and multiply, and fill the earth, and subdue it; and rule … (Genesis 1:28). They were to exercise dominion over all things — cultivating and releasing the latent potential of creation.
“I’ll show you the secret of the peanut”
I really enjoy the life-example of George Washington Carver, a Christian, and a world-class expert in botany and agriculture in the late 1800’s.
Though he was highly educated, his testimony before congress was that God revealed secrets to him by revelation.
He would begin each day with prayer that God would reveal secrets to him about plants and vegetables. In response to prayer, God told Carver, “I’ll show you the secret of the peanut.”
He discovered many innovative uses for the peanut, sweet potato, soybean, and other crops, revolutionizing southern agriculture and transforming the southern economy in the United States.
George Washington Carver invited Christ into his field of work, unleashing the potential of a part of creation he was called to. He was mentored by the One who created all things.
What part of God’s creation are you designed to cultivate? Education, technology, business, arts and entertainment, government, writing, music, manufacturing, _____________?
You are a unique prism: the potential of Christ!
The design of Christ, the capacities of Christ can be seen through you. The white-hot light of Christ can come to you. The potential of Christ can be seen through you.
A prism slows light down, refracting it so that we can see the diversity of color within. Each daughter and son of God uniquely manifests the potential of Christ in the world He has created!
Ask Him about it …
Jesus said, “Whatever you ask in My name, that will I do, so that the Father may be glorified in the Son. If you ask anything in My name, I will do it” (John 14:13-14).
Our faith — expressed as REQUEST — brings glory to the Father. As we invite Christ into any and every situation, we partner with Him. The potential of anything can be unleashed …
[Prayer] is coming to One who has repeatedly invaded human history and continues to do so. It is intelligently working with him to accomplish ends that fulfill his purposes in creation and in fostering human life upon the earth … (Dallas Willard, The Divine Conspiracy).
Adam and Eve were placed in the Garden to “cultivate it and keep it” (Genesis 2:15). We (all of us together) can cultivate and release the latent potential in every part of creation:
- Christ impresses us with solutions, the highest information, and fruitful initiatives.
- The potential of Christ is our potential … Jesus said if we truly believe in Him, we will do greater things than he did (John 14:12).
- You are the gateway to bring the potential of Christ into your world.
- Consistently ask God for a spirit of wisdom and revelation to operate in your life. About everything!
What do you want to improve? What part(s) of creation do you feel God is calling you to cultivate and develop? Thoughts?

You Can Have Extraordinary Vision
Good read, Brian. We need to be constantly reminded that our potential is great in all areas of life THROUGH Him! Offering up prayers to the Lord to reveal His secrets into our profession is awesome to consider. Thanks!
Thanks, Greg. I wonder how much time we could multiply, how much angst we could sidestep, if we would consistently seek secrets from above … about our profession and all of life.
