Extreme Fat Loss via Better Science and Simplicity

What if there was a simple and motivating way to experience extreme fat loss?  There may be.

Tim Ferris calls his approach a “slow-carb diet” (not a “low-carb diet” which lowers energy levels causing most people to quit).

One of his 4 simple rules for extreme fat loss – and I think the most fascinating thing about this approach – is taking one day off per week and going wild, eating what you think you shouldn’t.  And doing it to excess!

What this does, paradoxically, is spike the caloric intake once per week so that the metabolic rate (thyroid function, etc.) does not “downregulate” from restricting caloric intake constantly.  This actually helps the body to lose fat.  Interesting.

If you’re in a race, race now, because early leads and early gains compound …  - Seth Godin

Seth Godin is a marketing guy and he’s applying this to business and entrepreneurship.  But this can be applied across the full spectrum of life.

It’s such a smart concept: “early leads and early gains compound.”

Not just speed, but smart, accurate speed is a multiplier and is very fruitful in these areas and more …

You can strengthen your brain’s connections and your connections with other people

Is your mind tired?  Do you feel overwhelmed?

Dr. David Rock, Director of the NeuroLeadership Institute and author of Your Brain at Work says we are now facing “an epidemic of overwhelm”  … we are living in a “time when too many people’s mental well-being is being stretched through multi-tasking, fragmented attention and information overload.”

Yes, Yes … I Know What’s Causing That!

Why are so many so constipated about kids?  The American perspective about families is screwed up.  And it’s leaching into the church.

This is such a good post by Zach and Jen Neese …

“When God blesses us, He is catalyzing destiny in our lives.  A blessing pulls calling out of us.  It shatters our mediocrity and sets our feet upon the path of greatness.  Children bless us because, in parenting them, we embrace an essential ingredient to the fulfillment of our own destinies.”

Funny and challenging, it’s well worth the read.  See it below.  Pass it along.  ~ Brian and Penelope

The 4 Qualities of a True Statesman

Hey, manly men … I’ve just discovered a site you may want to take a look at, The Art of Manliness.  Vintage.  I’ve already subscribed.  Here’s a guest post on a huge need in leadership today: true statesmanship.

Pericles

Pericles of Athens

The author of this post was impacted by Dr. J. Rufus Fears, Professor of Classics at the University of Oklahoma.  One of the things Dr. Fears emphasized in his teaching was that a politician and a statesman are not the same thing.  Rather than being a tyrant, a statesman is a free leader of a free people.

To be a true statesman, a leader must possess 4 critical qualities:

  1. A bedrock of principles
  2. A moral compass
  3. A vision
  4. The ability to build a consensus to achieve that vision

After taking this for a read, ask yourself: Do you think there are true statesmen among us now?  If not, which of these qualities are the politicians out there lacking?

What Goes Into a Good Punch

Are you willing to give your attention to the fundamentals, paying the price in private?

Watching highlights from a classic championship boxing match, it’s easy to be impressed with a really good punch.  What we’re probably not thinking about is what’s behind it, what makes up a good punch.

As Brogan says, “Fists are just the far end of a long process.”

I think there’s something to be learned here that can help us raise our level in just about anything.  See Chris Brogan’s piece.

A powerful, impactful punch is not just the immediate contact of the fist hitting the flesh.  It’s sound technique and mechanics like footwork, positioning, leg strength, hips, core, and leveraging the back and shoulders.
