Think of it. There was a time when Albert Einstein could not count to 10. William Shakespeare had to learn his ABC’s. We are born to learn.
We’re all born at “zero” … then the learning begins. And lifelong learning unleashes lifelong potential.
With a growth mindset, we believe our abilities can develop, that we can become a higher version of ourselves.
A fixed mindset believes that personal learning abilities are limited. Or they have ceased. This mindset will cause us to stagnate in our personal development, generating boredom, frustration, and unfulfillment.
Grow your brain
As we learn something new, our brain grows through the process—new connections are formed. Brain scientists term this neurogenesis … the birth of new neurons.
When you are learning something new, you are actually populating your brain with additional neurons. New connections and pathways are created.
Sal Khan is the founder of Khan Academy, a free online education platform. I think every adult and child should explore this leading edge learning opportunity. We should never cease learning and growing.
We have so much potential. I love the idea of a beginner’s mind … a beautiful mind, the mind of a child … questing, questioning, welcoming, learning.
Are opportunities and challenges presenting themselves to you? How might a “2nd childhood” make the difference?
Our growth mindset will empower us to learn new things. We can develop in creative ways, overcoming challenges and exploiting opportunities.
