“And they heard the sound of the Lord God walking in the garden in the cool of the day …” (Genesis 3:8 NKJV)
Can we even imagine the pristine, clear relationship between the Creator and Adam and Eve? They were accustomed to walking with God in the cool of the day. Everything flowed from this clear relationship.
Their capacity to rule over creation, and through their descendants to spread the dominion of the Garden of Eden throughout the earth, flowed from this intimacy.
Their conversational relationship with God in the coolness of the day was the wellspring of their authority.
Of course, because of sin, and the negative effect it ignited, they hid themselves in shame. This is an archetypical understanding of human history – humanity running and hiding in shame. We have all sinned and fallen short of the glory of God (Romans 3:23).
“Adam, where are you?” The Creator is searching and calling humanity through Adam. And His desire is that our lost place of dominion will be restored.
You Gotta Stay Cool
Christ reconciles us to coolness. It’s from this cool place with the Creator that we are able to defeat the Enemy and to live and work in our true authority.
So don’t give in to being “hot” – anger, greed, lust, fear, anxiety, desperation, turmoil, torment
When we give too much attention to the Enemy, over-concentratiing on what he is doing, even over-emphasizing warfare, we slip from the place of “coolness.”
There is a place of warfare, but it flows from the place of refreshment and rest with the Lord God as He walks with us in the “cool of the day.” As we tighten our focus and restore our emphasis to where it should be, we will discover an increase of love and dominion in all things!
