This post is part of the Abraham: Questing with God series. Abraham is a touchstone for us – the original pattern of faith. What’s possible in your life?
We can bust out of the box. Today’s reality — with its constraints and limitations — does not have to shape our future.
The “box” is filled with things which keep us from living our best life and accomplishing our most fruitful, significant work. It is filled with forces which will hold you: things like poor thinking, circumstances, fear and what others are thinking and saying.
We need a jailbreak. Or a boxbreak!
No one can bust us out of the box like the Creator. We look to Abraham again for precedent. He is the prototype of living by faith.
Change your focus to bust out of the box!
Abraham was challenged to shift his focus. In Genesis 13:14-18, the Creator told him to look out at the territory that would be given to him.
“Now lift up your eyes and look from the place where you are, northward and southward and eastward and westward; for all the land which you see, I will give it to you and to your descendants forever. I will make your descendants as the dust of the earth, so that if anyone can number the dust of the earth, then your descendants can also be numbered” (vss. 14-15 NASB).
We lift our perspective and look from the place where we currently are. If we keep gazing at our present, limited place, we will continue to live in that experience. Our predominant focus creates our future reality.
But if we hear the call to look further, to see new places, then we are filled with hope for a new day.
Get up and move
We look and then we move.
“Arise, walk about the land through its length and breadth; for I will give it to you.” Then Abram moved his tent and came and dwelt by the oaks of Mamre, which are in Hebron, and there he built an altar to the Lord.”
Somehow you and I have to get up and start moving. Begin to survey new possibilities as you hear the call. And then begin to move in the direction of new things, for it will be given to you as you as you are transformed. Inner transformation releases transformation around us.
Follow your listening heart. Be confident.
