This post is part of the Abraham: Questing With God series.
There is a battle over defining what is real in our lives. The sooner we wake up to this struggle the better.
The contest extends to our relationships, our marriage, family, work, business, community, region, and nation.
Circumstances and what’s present in the NOW makes it’s claim: “This is reality for you. Get used to it!” But there is “real” and there is REALLY REAL.
Jesus comes and says, “I have a higher reality which trumps the ‘reality’ of the Liar. Trust Me. Work with Me. You’re going to get free and experience everything I have for you.”
Prototypes of Faith
Think of Abraham and Sarah. We can reach back to them for precedent.
The Scriptures set them forth as the prototype faith people. Abraham was seventy-five and Sarah was sixty-five when God first came with the promise that they would have a child. This began a twenty-five year odyssey of faith leading to the birth of Isaac.
The “reality” was that Abraham and Sarah were childless. They had not been able to conceive a child. Sarah was barren for all of these years. And now God is coming with the word of promise that she would conceive a son. On top of this, Abraham would be the father of nations. The world would be blessed through him. In truth, he would be the heir of the world!
Abraham fully understood his “reality.”
And without becoming weak in faith he contemplated his own body, now as good as dead since he was about a hundred years old, and the deadness of Sarah’s womb; yet, with respect to the promise of God, he did not waver in unbelief, but grew strong in faith, giving glory to God, and being fully assured that what He had promised, He was able also to perform (Rom. 4:19-21 NASB).
Super-Reality
He did not deny his situation; it’s just that God was giving him a HIGHER REALITY, a SUPER-REALITY based upon His Word of promise. This higher reality grew and developed within Abraham (he grew strong in faith) until he came to a place of being fully assured that what God had promised, He would perform.
Abraham came to a level of firm belief that God would impart His very eternal life to him, releasing His creative ability in his life and assignment.
In the sight of Him whom he believed, even God, who gives life to the dead and calls into being that which does not exist (Rom. 4:17 NASB).
He was now in a place in his journey with God where he absolutely knew that God could bring eternal life to the deadness of his own body. He believe was that God would open Sarah’s womb, calling into being that which had not yet existed!
We understand the “reality” of a situation we are in. But we come to understand the Word of promise from God is a HIGHER REALITY. Just as with Abraham and Sarah, the SUPER-REALITY of God becomes our experience.
Q4U: What is the HIGHER REALITY that God is asking you to believe for?
This post is part of the Abraham: Questing With God series. Abraham is a benchmark for us. He is an archetype – an original pattern of faith. We look to Abraham to see what it means to know God and to journey with Him.

Awesome! Thanks! I’m believing a desire God put in me to learn how to live supernaturally, to live in heaven while on earth, to have heaven’s resources, function, etc. with me, around me while I’m here. I don’t know how to yet, but am purusing God in it. This article helps!
